This urban concept is intended to surround the historic building complex in a space-saving manner, so that it integrates itself as harmoniously as possible into the predefined building structure in a restrained manner. This is achieved in the first place, by taking on the existing structures, building heights and roof shapes and developing them in a playful way.
The orientation of the new building blocks follows the expansion of the existing building and, as a result of the rebounding of these buildings on the Prof. Kümmell-Straße, an extension of the Brunnenplatz in front of the historic town hall. The fan-shaped longitudinal structure ensures that the roof is visible through the entire building set. A network of the site with its differentiated environment is achieved by breaking the new building elements positioned in alignment lines and establish the visual gaps linked to the new main building and in the depth of the city hall area of the neighbouring buildings.
The quality of the barrier-free pedestrian accessibility is improved by the expansion of the forecourt for the main entrance. The extended town hall square as a meeting point and event area can become a new landmark of the city of Korbach. The accessibility of all other building entrances and the easy-to-penetrate permeability of the slender building elements is also achieved with this concept.
By breaking into small parts, the fire brigade can reach every area in a barrier-free way. The delivery and passenger car development takes place via a ramp into the underground garage as an extension of the Rathausgasse.
The historic building at the Rathausgasse corner of Prof. Kümmell-Straße is preserved for reasons of monument preservation and the intended cultivation is to correspond to the historical quality.
With this concept, the requirements in terms of fire safety, escape routes, the accessibility and the required connections between the departments can be met.
